More than half of Chileans disapprove the government’s performance

Santiago, Chile, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) Fifty-two percent of Chileans disagree with the way Jose Antonio Kast's government is running the country, while 35 percent approve, according to a poll by Criteria.

Regarding the handling of the crisis caused in ten regions by the arrival of several powerful weather fronts—which damaged homes, roads, and crops—42 out of 100 respondents consider the response incorrect, 35 agree with it, and 23 expressed no opinion.

When asked about their perception of the country’s direction, nearly half believe Chile is moving backward, 32 see it as unchanged compared to the previous administration, and 20 perceive progress.

Another topic explored by the pollster was expectations regarding the economic situation over the coming six months.

In this regard, 42 out of 100 estimate the situation will worsen, while only 22 foresee an improvement.

Criteria also measured public reaction to the recently approved “mega-reform” championed by President Kast, which includes tax cuts for large corporations and the removal of investment approval requirements—measures criticized for their potential negative impact on the environment.

Among those surveyed, 37 percent view the reform as detrimental to the country’s interests, 33 percent believe it will spur economic growth, and 30 percent declined to answer.

Regarding this initiative, 45 out of 100 respondents stated it would benefit large corporations and the wealthiest segments of the population; 38 percent expect increased job creation, and 17 percent offered no opinion.
