Foreign sales totaled $2.786 billion—a 7 percent drop compared to the previous year—even though export volume rose by five percentage points.
According to the 2026 Forestry Report by Uruguay XXI—compiled using data from the National Customs Directorate, the Central Bank of Uruguay, and the multinational company Montes del Plata—cellulose was the country’s second most valuable export product, accounting for 17 percent of Uruguay’s total goods exports.
China led the market for wood and cellulose, purchasing 40 percent of Uruguay’s forestry exports, valued at $1.108 billion.
It was followed by the European Union (29 percent) and the United States (12 percent).
