The group, directed by Fernando Medrano Vireya, earned the Diploma of Honor and the Grand Prize for Popularity at the 36th edition of the Port-sur-Saône International Folklore Festival (*Spectacles du Monde*) in France.
The recognition followed performances given by the company between August 4 and 9 at venues in the French town, where their artistic offering was warmly received by both the audience and the event organizers.
Beyond the competitive outcome, the awards validate the work of a group that uses traditional expressions as a means to showcase Cuban identity to spectators from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Camagua is part of an artistic movement based in Camaguey—one of Cuba’s major heritage cities—that contributes to preserving and revitalizing cultural expressions rooted in the Caribbean nation’s heritage.
Since mid-July, the ensemble has been representing Cuba on a tour across Spain and France, bringing various elements of the island’s music, dance, and folk traditions to European audiences.
The company’s participation in these festivals goes beyond mere artistic exchange; it transforms each performance into a space for cultural dialogue between Cuba and Europe, while simultaneously boosting the international visibility of Cuba’s intangible cultural heritage.
