Demand for Brazilian Senate to End 6×1 Work Schedule

Brasilia, Aug 11 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian workers took to the streets in several cities to demand that the Senate expedite the vote on a proposal against the 6x1 work schedule and call for a reduction in the workweek.

The mobilization, organized by the Unified Workers’ Central (CUT), other trade union bodies, and popular movements, coincided with the resumption of National Congress activities following the parliamentary recess.

In Brasilia, workers gathered outside the headquarters of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) to demand an end to the system requiring six consecutive days of work followed by one day of rest, as well as a reduction in working hours without a cut in pay.

Renato Zulato, the Central’s general secretary, advocated for expanding dialogue with workers at their workplaces and via social media to press for the vote.

Meanwhile, in Salvador, the capital of Bahia state, a rally was held outside the Casa d’Italia, and in Curitiba, Paraná, workers gathered at the “Corner of Democracy” (Esquina da Democracia).

Similar actions took place in Teresina, capital of Piauí; Recife, Pernambuco; and Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul; while São Paulo saw gatherings at Largo da Concórdia and Brás station.

Events were also reported in São Vicente, Mauá, Diadema, Campinas, Osasco, Guarulhos, and Mogi das Cruzes. The mobilization is set to continue in Brasilia on August 12 and 13 outside the Senate’s Annex II, aiming to maintain pressure during the first week of legislative activity.
