CUT President Jose Manuel Diaz expressed his gratitude, at the opening ceremony, to the artists, both Chilean and international, who generously donated their works, which will remain permanently in this space and contribute to strengthening workers’ culture.
Diaz said, “Through art, we also fight, we also express demands and hopes; therefore, this art gallery serves to enhance the labor movement.”
The head of the labor union mentioned that the paintings include the gaze of Palestine and that of Antonio Guerrero, one of five Cuban heroes who were unjustly held in US prisons.
Natacha Sierralta, head of the CUT’s Secretariat of Culture, Sports, and Recreation and one of the driving forces behind the initiative, remembered that the facility emerged within the organized labor movement to make the arts accessible to workers and their families.
