“A terrorist attack in the Krasnodar region, planned at the behest of Ukrainian special services with the aim of assassinating an official of the Russian Ministry of Defense, was thwarted,” the agency stated Wednesday in a press release.

According to the statement, the FSB arrested the perpetrator, who, at the behest of a coordinator and in exchange for payment, planned to detonate the car of an employee of a military recruitment office.

“The suspect was apprehended while attempting to retrieve an improvised explosive device containing a Western-made explosive substance from a hiding place,” the agency added.

In September 2025, the alleged perpetrator, acting on his own initiative, contacted representatives of a Ukrainian terrorist organization banned in Russia via the Telegram messaging service, the FSB stated.

According to a video released by the agency, the detainee planned to travel to Georgia after carrying out the attack.

The Investigation Department of the FSB’s Krasnodar Regional Directorate initiated criminal proceedings against the suspect for high treason, participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, and illegal possession of an explosive device. The detainee was taken into custody.
