Belarus opened exhibition marking Fidel Castro’s centenary

Minsk, August 12 (Prensa Latina) An exhibition dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, was opened at the headquarters of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.

As confirmed to Prensa Latina by Santiago Perez, the Caribbean nation’s ambassador to Belarus, the exhibition—organized by the House of Representatives with the support of the BelTA news agency, the National Archives of Belarus, and the State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War—is titled “A Symbol of His Era.”

The display includes photographs of Fidel Castro’s visit to the then-Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1972, archival material, and museum artifacts reflecting the history and development of Belarusian-Cuban relations.

Vadim Ipatov, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, noted that a key area of work for deputies of the National Assembly of Belarus is the preservation of historical memory and the promotion of traditional values, as well as the historical events that allow for an understanding of the depth of history and the paths countries take to achieve sovereignty and independence.

“Fidel Castro based his work on principles such as social justice and national independence,” Ipatov pointed out.

He added that the Cuban leader was a man who could have lived in a palace but understood that, above all, it was essential for healthcare and education—along with other benefits—to be accessible to the Cuban people.

Meanwhile, Belarus’s First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lukashevich, highlighted that Cuba has always been an ally, friend, and reliable partner to Belarus—”a companion who will never betray us.”
