“We celebrate the life and the 100 years of our commander, Fidel Castro. A revolutionary who never abandoned his convictions and embraced his duty when history called upon him to fight for his people,” the former leader wrote on his Facebook account.
In the post, Morales describes the author of *History Will Absolve Me* as a “teacher who sowed hope when others sowed resignation.”
The former leader—of Aymara descent—added that the man who led the revolution that triumphed on January 1, 1959, was “a brother who taught us that loyalty to the people is worth more than any reward and carries more weight than applause.”
The former president accompanied the text with a video explaining how, thanks to Fidel Castro’s suggestion and assistance—specifically through the eye surgery “Operation Miracle,” which restored sight to the population via surgery—more than 700,000 Bolivians benefited from the program.
