Workers’ Central Union of Brazil pays tribute to Fidel Castro

Brasilia, August 13 (Prensa Latina) The Workers' Central Union of Brazil (CTB) joined trade union organizations from around the world to pay tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on the centenary of his birth.

In a message published this August 13, the organization highlighted Fidel (1926–2016) as a key figure in the struggles for national liberation, socialism, and anti-imperialism during the 20th century.

The CTB noted that the Cuban leader’s legacy must be understood as inextricably linked to the history of his people and to the struggles for independence, national sovereignty, and the construction of a society free from imperialist domination.

For the Brazilian central, the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959 marked a historic turning point in Latin America, asserting the Caribbean nation’s right to forge its own path within a regional context defined by the political, economic, and military influence of the United States.

On the occasion of the centenary, the central reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty of peoples, the right to self-determination, peace, social justice, and socialism, as well as solidarity among workers in Brazil, Cuba, and other countries.

The organization also emphasized that the Revolution was the result of a collective process rather than the actions of a single individual; therefore, it maintained that honoring Fidel also means recognizing the resistance and history of the Cuban people.

“Fidel Castro would have turned 100. His story remains bound to the Cuban Revolution, the anti-imperialist struggle, and the resistance of a people who chose to be masters of their own destiny,” the CTB stated.
