Cuban families in Pakistan celebrate Fidel’s centenary

Islamabad, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban families in Pakistan celebrated the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, during a moving event, diplomatic sources reported.

Gathered at the Cuban Embassy in Islamabad, participants enjoyed poetry, painting, and speeches regarding Fidel, the homeland, and opposition to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on the Caribbean nation by the United States.

Cuban mothers residing in the country, along with their children and spouses, took part in the gathering, according to the Cuban mission in the South Asian nation.

Notably, the youngest participants presented their work in the “Fidel and His Legacy to New Generations” contest, showcasing various artistic forms with a shared purpose: paying tribute and showing respect to Fidel, expressing love for Cuba, rejecting the U.S. blockade, and demonstrating solidarity with the Cuban people, the embassy highlighted.

A century after his birth, the Commander-in-Chief’s mark remains alive in relations between Cuba and Pakistan—a relationship defined by gestures of solidarity and cooperation.

Under Fidel’s leadership, Cuba was among the first nations to provide humanitarian aid, dispatching medical brigades and field hospitals to the areas hardest hit by the devastating Kashmir earthquake in October 2005.

Additionally, more than 900 young Pakistanis received scholarships to train as doctors at Cuban universities.
