According to Toporov, USC has demonstrated to Brazil that it possesses the capabilities to build vessels featuring the technological and engineering specifications the South American giant might require for its river fleet.
“Our core competencies include mixed river-sea vessels, as well as high-speed, cargo, and passenger ships, for which there could be demand in the Amazon river, the senior executive said.
And added that it would be profitable to build a significant portion of these vessels in Brazilian shipyards with USC’s technological and engineering involvement.
In this regard, Toporov noted that building small vessels in Russia and then transporting them to Brazil is not always economically viable.
“Therefore, local construction in Brazilian shipyards—with USC participating in the design and the supply of specific components—could be the optimal option,” he explained.
Previously, Kremlin aide and head of the Russian Maritime Board, Nikolai Patrushev, stated that Moscow and Brasilia hold great potential for cooperation in modern shipbuilding.
