Cuba Book Fair: A display of unity and brotherhood among peoples

Havana, Aug 17 (Prensa Latina) The 34th Havana International Book Fair concluded with the participation of 33 countries from every continent, reaffirming the commitment of Cuba and its friends to this major literary event.

Holding the fair despite the complex situation the nation is facing “is a demonstration of what the Cuban people can achieve and proof that strength lies in unity as we continue to move forward,” Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ines Maria Chapman told Prensa Latina in an exclusive interview.

The success lies with the Cuban people and the Revolution, she added, highlighting the collaborative efforts of various institutions and agencies, as well as the presence of friends from around the world and the Russian Federation—the Guest of Honor.

The Nicolas Guillen Hall, located at the Linea and 18 Cultural Station, hosted a tribute to those who made this renowned event possible; the fair promises new offerings and excitement in other provinces before concluding on September 6 in Santiago de Cuba.

During the event, the Russian Embassy’s Charge d’Affaires, Sergey Obozov, highlighted hus country’s diverse cultural offerings and the responsibility that comes with holding such a significant status.

“We strove to showcase the nation’s multifaceted culture,” he stated, emphasizing that this would not have been possible without the support of “our Cuban friends.”

The gathering, accompanied by the music of Russian violinist Petr Lundstrem, saw Cuban institutions and publishing houses recognized for their outstanding presence and contributions to the fair.

The Grand Prize for Social Communication, awarded by the Cuban Association of Social Communicators, went to Letras Cubanas Publishing House, while Ediciones ICAIC and Gente Nueva Publishing House (Children’s Pavilion) were among those honored in the Graphic Design, Audiovisual, Digital Media, and Public Relations categories.
