Cuban President assesses defense preparedness in Havana

Havana, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel participated in preparedness activities to address potential threats at the Cubanacan Zone Defense Council (CDZ) in the Playa municipality of the capital.

As president of the National Defense Council, the leader assessed the results of the decision to treat defense preparedness as an essential task in the current context.

Diaz-Canel highlighted the progress made through the strategy of utilizing organizational structures designed for wartime during peacetime; this approach enables faster solutions to be found within the communities themselves, the Presidency reported on its website.

He also suggested that available spaces in Cubanacan be utilized for food production—by both institutions and families—and that water storage facilities be created in areas where distribution is delayed. He called for addressing other issues, such as cash payments to retirees, the boosting digital payments, and the fight against price gouging.

At the same time, he emphasized on the importance of implementing the 176 economic and social transformations, with a focus on strengthening municipal autonomy.

He underscored the need to identify idle productive capacities in each territory and seek alternatives to bring them into operation, ensuring that both state and non-state economic actors contribute to local development.
