Ethiopian President Taye Atske-Selassie; the speakers of the House of People’s Representatives (Parliament), Tagesse Chafo, and the House of Federation (Upper House), Agegnehu Teshager; and National Dialogue Commission (ENDC)’s Chief Commissioner Mesfin Araya attended the closing ceremony.
Also present were African Union (AU) Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Olusegun Obasanjo; Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu; former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta; and other guests.
The Conference brought together 4,000 participants representing several sectors of Ethiopian society, as well as members of the diaspora, at the Addis Ababa International Conference Center.
Led by the ENDC, the process was established to address long-standing political, social, and institutional differences through broad consultations. In addition to its objectives, it also seeks to contribute to lasting peace, stability, and national reconciliation.
The closing ceremony marks the culmination of Ethiopia’s first national dialogue process, which aimed to provide a platform for addressing the country’s deep political and social divisions through debate and consultation.
