According to a Datafolha poll, for 30 percent of voters the main incentive for going to the polls is to block the victory of a figure they dislike.
Meanwhile, 61 percent of those surveyed stated they would choose their candidate because they believe that person provides the best proposals and is the most qualified.
Among voters supporting President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of the Workers’ Party, 23 percent say their primary motivation for backing him is to prevent another candidate from being elected, while 68 percent believe the president has the best platform and is the most qualified.
Regarding his main rival in the election, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party, 35 percent of his voters state they intend to vote for him to stop another candidate from winning, while 56 percent consider him the most qualified candidate.
At the same time, for some of his supporters, Lula represents the option capable of preventing the return of “Bolsonarism” to power, at a time when former President Jair Bolsonaro remains ineligible to run and is under house arrest following his conviction for an attempted coup d’etat.
The survey also reveals a largely decided electorate: 72 percent of respondents say their vote is already set, compared to 27 percent who admit they could still change their minds.
