The initiative, as detailed by Agencia Brasil, aims to increase the chances of identification through profile matching and will run until August 28.
Genetic profiles from the relatives of individuals whose whereabouts are unknown will be collected and compared with samples stored in state, Federal District, and national genetic databases.
This procedure also allows for cross-referencing with profiles of individuals found alive or deceased whose identities have not yet been established.
According to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the initiative serves as an additional tool for locating missing persons and provides an opportunity for families who have not yet provided genetic material to do so.
Authorities recommend the participation of first-degree relatives—such as the missing person’s father, mother, siblings, or children—whenever possible.
These profiles provide useful genetic reference points for establishing potential matches.
