The proposal was made during the group’s Sports Ministers’ Meeting held in Visakhapatnam, where Addis Ababa also advocated for stronger, more practical cooperation in the sector.
Through the proposed framework, Ethiopia seeks to turn shared BRICS commitments regarding sports into practical programs and partnerships.
Separately, the African nation advocated for greater tourism cooperation, positioning the sector as a strategic avenue for economic growth, sustainable development, and the strengthening of ties between the peoples of member and partner countries.
During its address at the BRICS Tourism Ministers’ Meeting held in Jaipur on August 22 and 23, the Ethiopian delegation highlighted the country’s cultural heritage and natural attractions, while underscoring the potential to generate greater economic and development opportunities. Ethiopia proposed the creation of a BRICS Travel Mart and a Tourism Center of Excellence to facilitate the offering of joint products, foster investment, promote research, and strengthen capacity building.
Finally, the country expressed its readiness to transform tourism cooperation within BRICS into concrete initiatives and investment opportunities, thereby reinforcing the sector’s role in expanding economic ties and interpersonal relations within the partnership.
