At a press conference organized by China Unicom and Huawei, experts presented 5G-A applications operating at the National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing, a venue bringing together some 2,056 robots and over 10,000 people.
The two companies maintain a joint innovation program known as “5G Capital,” which has evolved from the initial commercialization of 5G to the deployment of higher-capacity 5G-A networks.
This collaboration enabled the construction of a 200-megahertz urban network and the development of applications linked to AI devices, robots, embodied AI, and the low-altitude economy.
In July 2026, the companies launched the world’s largest commercial 5G-A GigaUplink network, featuring over 10,000 base stations and continuous 100-megahertz uplink coverage across key areas of the capital.
For the Games, China Unicom (Beijing) and Huawei deployed a multi-layer converged 5G-A and Wi-Fi network, utilizing carrier isolation, network slicing, and intelligent resource orchestration to provide tailored service to robots, media outlets, and spectators.
Against this backdrop, the World Humanoid Robot Games serve as a concentrated test of the capabilities mobile networks must deliver to support the proliferation of robots, smart vehicles, AI glasses, and industrial vision systems.
