Cuban Ambassador to Mali, Viviana Hernandez, noted that the event provided a space for reflection on Fidel Castro’s legacy regarding sovereignty and solidarity among peoples.

  In addition to the Cuban ambassador, the gathering was attended by local authorities from Kati, as well as the vice-president of the National Civil Society Council and president of the *Coalition des Alternatives Africaines Dettes et Developpement* (Coalition for African Alternatives on Debt and Development), Barry Aminata Toure.

  The Cuban diplomat gave a presentation on sovereignty and international solidarity as pillars of Fidel Castro’s legacy, while Aminata Toure spoke about Cuba’s solidarity with Africa.

  Participants also addressed topics such as the profound transformations undertaken by the Cuban Revolution and its significant social achievements, Fidel Castro’s internationalist character, and revolutionary Cuba’s solidarity with the peoples of the world—particularly with Africa.

  The severe humanitarian consequences of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States—which has intensified in recent years—were also a subject of extensive discussion at the event.

  As part of the meeting held to honor the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth, the organizing coalition issued a statement highlighting three concepts they considered pillars of the leader’s thought: dignity, solidarity, and popular sovereignty.
