Chile: President’s approval rating remains stalled at 35 percent

Santiago, Chile, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) The approval rating for Chilean President José Antonio Kast has remained stalled at 35 percent for three consecutive months, according to the Criteria poll. The survey, conducted on August 20 and 21 among a sample of 802 adults residing across the country, indicates that disapproval of the president reached 52 percent.

Regarding the country’s economic situation, 48 out of every 100 respondents considered it negative or very negative, 24 expressed no opinion, and 28 rated it as positive or very positive.

On the subject of job creation, 54 percent considered the results to be far below expectations, 34 percent believe the situation remains unchanged, and 12 percent see an improvement.

One topic covered in the survey was public awareness of the constitutional security reform bill promoted by the government (La Moneda) in the National Congress.

Regarding this, 11 percent reported total lack of knowledge about the matter, 51 percent said they knew very little, 31 percent knew a fair amount, and seven percent claimed to have a great deal of information.

As for reforming the Constitution to allow the President to declare a state of emergency lasting up to 240 days without requiring legislative approval, 55 percent are in favor, 35 percent are opposed, and 12 percent said they were unfamiliar with the issue.
