The dismantling of the giant photographs placed there—which Prensa Latina was able to confirm—were replaced by two other giant blue banners with the inscription “Plan Venezuela Renace” (Plan Venezuela Reborn), the slogan of the government campaign following the devastating earthquakes of June 24, 2016.

This comprehensive program, promoted by acting president Delcy Rodriguez, projects a new renewal not only in the areas of construction and reconstruction, but also institutionally through the economy, the judicial system, human rights, security, and social cohesion.

In a national radio and television broadcast on Monday, the president stated that she “has a clear path forward,” rebuilding what the earthquake destroyed, improving public services, reviving the economy, and generating jobs and opportunities.

She also declared the need to find spaces where “Venezuelans can solve together the problems we share.”

Prensa Latina verified, however, that the same portraits of the Father of the Nation and the Supreme Bolivarian Commander remain displayed at the other end of the courthouse facade, facing Plaza Diego Ibarra, which borders the National Electoral Council.

The removal of the photographs was captured by passersby who uploaded photos and videos to social media, creating confusion and criticism among some and jubilation among others for the decision, which has not yet been explained by the authorities amidst a process of transformation for “a new Venezuela.” abo/arm/ocs/jcd
