Convened by the Central Workers’ Union (CUT), other labor organizations, the Life Beyond Work movement, the Popular Brazil front and the Fearless People front, the action will take place on August 30 with events in several cities across the country.
The Sao Paulo rally will be held on Sunday morning outside the city’s Art Museum on Paulista Avenue.
The CUT announced that cities such as Salvador, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Natal, Aracaju, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Sao Luis, and Belem will also stage demonstrations.
The day of protests seeks to increase pressure on legislators to approve the Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC 221/2019), adopted by the Chamber of Deputies on May 27 and subsequently sent to the Senate.
Senator Omar Aziz, rapporteur of the initiative in the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ), presented his report on Thursday, which is favorable to the PEC, and recommended maintaining the text approved by the lawmakers, after rejecting the 12 amendments presented during its analysis in the Upper House.
