The new phase of “Operation Gota” (Operation Drop) will run until September 6 in territories served by the Amapá and North Pará Special Indigenous Health District (DSEI), the Ministry of Health reported.

The initiative aims to increase access to immunization in areas where vast distances, geographical conditions, and transportation challenges necessitate the air transport of health teams.

This operation is coordinated by the Ministry of Health and the Secretariat of Indigenous Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and the Brazilian Air Force.

The teams will carry all injectable vaccines included in the National Vaccination Schedule, according to press reports.

The program also includes actions in indigenous communities along the Middle Purus River, with further activities scheduled for September 10–20.

During the first half of this year, Operation Gota covered territories in the Upper Rio Negro, Upper Jurua, and Javari Valley regions; teams visited 112 villages, administered 13,000 doses, and vaccinated over 8,000 indigenous people.

Brazil continues its efforts to restore and expand immunization coverage nationwide; this month, it conducted a National Multi-Vaccination Campaign targeting children and adolescents under the age of 15, offering 20 types of vaccines.
