Cuba begins school year despite tightened US blockade

Havana, Sep 1 (Prensa Latina) More than 1.4 million students at all educational levels are returning to classrooms in Cuba in a context marked by the tightened economic blockade imposed by the United States.

The new school year mobilizes more than 135,000 teachers in general education, while the sports system incorporates 13,350 students into the School Sports Initiation Programs.

Education Minister Naima Trujillo stated that this start of the school year represents an extraordinary effort by the nation given the current circumstances.

Trujillo ratified the decision to keep in-person classes and adjusted the formats to the realities of each province and educational center.

The minister admitted during her appearance on national television that the sector clearly understands the impact of the energy crisis and the lack of supplies on the educational community.

Trujillo underscored that in-person attendance is essential, as student-teacher interaction is a fundamental pillar for comprehensive development in childhood and adolescence.
