The project, part of the technological retooling of the local iron and steel industry, utilizes housing modules adapted to ensure livability amidst the shortage of traditional building materials.

Dania Betancourt Pena, the entity’s Business Director, explained that the units feature zinc roofing, interior thermal insulation, anti-corrosive paint, and finished kitchens.

The first completed units were handed over to residents of Piedra Blanca neighborhood in the provincial capital city, as part of an urban development plan designed to house dozens of these structures.

Meanwhile, Maria de los Angeles Mora Almeciga, a specialist at the institution, noted that the factory is currently fabricating the anchors for the concrete foundations of the new community under development.

Originally founded to produce sugar industry machinery, the plant is diversifying its production profile through linkages with various economic stakeholders in the eastern province.
