A poll by the firm Quaest shows Lula, of the Workers’ Party, with 37 percent support in a prompted first-round scenario, followed by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, of the Liberal Party, with 29 percent.
Augusto Cury, a writer and candidate for the Avante party, appears in third place with 10 percent of voting intentions, according to the survey conducted as the campaign for the aforementioned elections gains momentum.
The poll was commissioned by the Globo corporation and conducted in person with 2,004 voters between August 30 and September 1.
In a potential runoff between Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro, results show 42 percent for the president and 41 percent for the senator—a difference falling within the survey’s margin of error, constituting a statistical tie.
The poll also assessed other possible head-to-head matchups for a presidential runoff, in which Lula appears numerically ahead of the other figures included in the simulations.
The data confirm the central roles of Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro in the current Brazilian electoral contest, although the landscape remains subject to change in the coming weeks.
