Local media reported that Fachin began considering that possibility last week amid the escalating conflict between STF ministers Andre Mendonca and Alexandre de Moraes, and the idea gained strength following new rulings that deepened the dispute within the highest court.
Folha de S.Paulo and O Globo reported that the head of the court is studying the legal and procedural options available to assume both cases, which are currently under Mendonca’s approval.
This initiative has not yet been finalized and faces internal resistance, as the STF president seeks a way to stop the crisis without his participation being interpreted as an endorsement of either of the two opposing factions.
The situation escalated after Mendonca ordered the preventive suspension of Federal Police (PF) Director General Andrei Rodrigues, and the institution’s Director of Intelligence, Leandro Almada.
