Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that AI development in China is the resault of its high-level scientific and technological self-reliance capabilities.
The spokesperson noted that this progress also aligns with the principle of consultation, joint construction, and shared benefits, as well as the open cooperation China maintains with other countries.
Mao emphasized that all parties must strengthen collaboration to boost AI development that should be open, inclusive, accessible, and beneficial to humanity.
“We hope the US side will earnestly honor the important consensus reached by the heads of state of both countries and refrain from making unfounded accusations or smears against China,” she stated.
The spokesperson highlighted that Beijing and Washington are powers in the field of artificial intelligence and should strengthen cooperation in this area.
The remarks followed a joint statement issued by the National Security Agency and two other US entities, accusing six Chinese AI companies of allegedly engaging in the unauthorized distillation of US models to obtain proprietary knowledge.
According to those agencies, this practice poses a threat to the US strategy regarding artificial intelligence.
