Mexico screens documentary on Fidel Castro

Mexico City, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) Dozens of people attended the screening of the documentary "Nacion Hermana: Mexico y Fidel" (Sister Nation: Mexico and Fidel), which provides a look at the life of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution and the bond he maintained with this country.

Tania Arroyo, head of the historical archive at the National Museum of Interventions, highlighted at the event at the Cuban Embassy the significance of Fidel Castro’s legacy in the current context, as his 100th birthday is also being commemorated.

Arroyo also pointed to elements evidencing “the United States’ obsession with Cuba” and described the blockade and coercive measures imposed by Washington on the Caribbean nation as a silent genocide against the island’s population.

She highlighted the importance of producing a documentary like this one, noting that the “long-term psychological and economic operation” implemented by the United States “seeks to criminalize Cuba, an effort that began in 1962 and is currently in force.”

Arroyo underscored, “What is a problem for them (Washington) is, for us, an example, a source of hope, and proof that there is another way to understand the world and construct our reality. Cuba stands as an example of dignity and resistance.”

Cuba’s Ambassador to Mexico, Eugenio Martinez, during a meeting held in Granma hall, thanked Canal 11 for producing the documentary.
