Cuba: Council of State assesses progress of economic transformations

Havana, Sept. 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Council of State analyzed the current situation and outlook regarding the economic and social transformations being implemented in the country during an ordinary session.

In the meeting, attended by the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP) and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo, and the President of the Republic, Miguel Diaz-Canel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign of Investment Oscar Perez-Oliva reported that efforts in recent months have focused on implementing the transformations, ensuring the necessary legal framework, and executing the corresponding political-communication strategies.

Members of the Council of State—the body representing the ANPP between its sessions—highlighted the importance of fully understanding the established legal regulations to ensure the correct application of the measures, as well as refining work systems and fostering forums for dialogue.

During the discussion, Miguel Díaz-Canel reiterated the importance of deepening preparation and public participation to enhance feedback.

For his part, Esteban Lazo emphasized the priority of continuing to support municipalities, as the local level is where the approved transformations are actually put into practice.

Minister of Justice Rosabel Gamón reported that a legislative update schedule had been drawn up to provide the legal framework for these economic and social changes.

Two new decree-laws were approved during the session: “On the Academy of Sciences of Cuba” and “On Bank Loans to Individuals.”
