In a document entitled “The Venezuelan People Embrace Cuba”, to mark the International Day of Struggle against the Blockade, observed every September 17, these solidarity groups raised their voices to condemn “the horrors of this abject policy,” which seeks to surrender the heroic Cuban people by hunger and deprivation. The statement admitted the tightened aggression by the government of President Donald Trump and “his disreputable” Secretary of State Marco Rubio, affirming that this blockade is the most prolonged and systematic act of aggression ever waged against any people in modern history.
The text underscored, “In recent times, we have witnessed an unprecedented escalation, orchestrated from imperial power with a viciousness that defies description.”
It noted that the blockade has become, in practice, a “planned, silent, and methodical genocide” that punishes children, the elderly, women, and men alike, to break the will of a nation that chose to be free.
The statement remembered that President Trump included, among his first executive orders, the designation of “dignified Cuba” as a state sponsor of terrorism, in contrast to global public opinion and the prevailing feeling of nations that condemn the blockade in overwhelming annual votes.
The solidarity movement and its allies extended an embrace to the people of Cuba, remembering that Commander Hugo Chavez, during his first visit to the island in 1994, planted a seed of commitment and brotherhood that prospers more strongly than ever.
