To mark Cuban Archaeologist Day, the Central-Eastern Archaeology Department (DCOA)—part of the Center for Environmental Research and Services—brought together regional specialists to pay tribute to the Guarch family, a cornerstone of historical science on the island.
The gathering highlighted the contributions of Jose Manuel Guarch Delmonte, founder of the DCOA, and his daughter Elena Guarch Rodriguez; both are recognized for their work in understanding pre-Columbian communities and preserving the Caribbean region’s heritage.
Additionally, researcher Caridad Rodriguez was honored for her dedicated career in safeguarding the traditions and history that enrich Cuba’s cultural legacy.
Audiovisual presentations by experts Cosme Casals, Lourdes Perez, and Juan Guarch Rodriguez showed the enduring relevance of findings in the eastern region and the importance of passing these experiences on to new generations to keep alive the effort to recover the scientific heritage of the Global South.
