French public debt to exceed 120 percent of GDP by 2027

Paris, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) France is set to hit a new record high in 2027, with public debt foreeseen to rise to 120 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by that time, the capital's press reported.

The Government submitted its draft budget to the High Council of Public Finance on Friday, Le Monde online newspaper highlighted.

The newspaper noted that the document projects a rise in mandatory contributions and taxes, the primary factor behind the anticipated deficit reduction, but debt levels will continue to rise.

Thus, public debt will climb from 119.3 percent of GDP in 2026 to 121.7 percent in 2027, according to figures included in the draft budget and announced by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu promised fiscal “stability” and even a slight tax reduction for large companies for 2027.
