Panama hosts scientific mission to study climate change

Panama City, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) Panama is reportedly hosting a scientific mission to study stratospheric aerosols and their impact on climate change.

The official report noted that the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are supporting the study.

As part of the project, NASA’s WB-57 high-altitude research aircraft arrived at Panama Pacifico International Airport.

The plane is equipped with 17 scientific instruments to analyze the composition and behavior of particles and gases in the atmosphere.

The aircraft operates at altitudes between 13 and 19 kilometers and conducts six-hour flights up to three times a week to study the transport, chemistry, microphysics, and radiative properties of aerosols.

The research focuses on the deep tropical convection outflow over northern South America, one of the regions with the highest levels of continental convective activity on the planet.

The mission will also provide data to analyze current stratospheric conditions and the response to proposed climate interventions involving the release of reflective particles intended to alter surface temperatures.
