The Ervebo vaccine is being studied to determine if it offers protection against the Bundibugyo virus, which is responsible for the current outbreak and for which there are no authorized vaccines or treatments.
According to the WHO, the vaccine was highly effective against the Zaire ebolavirus in the past; however, it remains unknown whether it can provide significant protection against the Bundibugyo variant, the press release noted.
