Lawyer Washington Andrade, a member of the platform and one of the initiative’s promoters, stated that electoral bodies violated citizens’ rights to participation by refusing to allow them to proceed with the process, which is provided for in the Constitution.
The filed petition requests that the highest constitutional court review previously adopted decisions and determine whether any rights violations occurred.
Andrade also urged the Court to handle the case expeditiously, noting that a potentially favorable ruling would lose its effectiveness if issued only after several years.
Leonidas Iza, leader of the Confederation of Kichwa Peoples of Ecuador (Ecurunari) and a member of Revoca EC, affirmed that they would continue to pursue legal avenues to advance the recall of Noboa and his vice president, Maria Jose Pinto.
The leader and former presidential candidate linked the proposal to social issues affecting the Ecuadorian population, including difficulties in accessing medicines, insecurity, food-related concerns, and the economic situation.
Iza warned that if they deem institutional avenues exhausted, they will exercise the right to resistance recognized by the Constitution and call upon social sectors to participate in a potential national mobilization.
The petition to the Constitutional Court follows the rejection by the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE) of requests for the forms needed to begin collecting the signatures required for the process.
