Lula carries out agenda in New York ahead of UNGA

New York, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will hold bilateral meetings in this city before delivering the opening address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Lula arrived in the US city, and his schedule includes meetings with Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and US Senator Bernie Sanders.

The meeting with Orsi is scheduled to take place at the South American nation’s official residence in New York.

Brazil and Uruguay maintain bilateral ties and cooperate within the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), and both heads of State have been in contact since the Uruguayan president took office.

The meeting will take place in the framework of both countries’ participation in multilateral United Nations debates and the regional cooperation agenda.

Lula has advocated, in several forums, for strengthening multilateralism and international dialogue mechanisms.

Subsequently, the Brazilian head of State will meet with Mamdani, who assumed office this year.

The president will conclude his schedule with a meeting with Sanders, an independent senator from Vermont and a prominent figure in US progressive politics.

Lula’s agenda in New York precedes leading engagements: a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the opening address of the general debate.
