Writing on the social media platform X, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar Garcia, stated that the individual is linked to the production and distribution of synthetic drugs and to the extortion of business owners in the citrus sector.
Furthermore, he is subject to a provisional arrest warrant for extradition to the United States on drug trafficking charges, the official noted, adding that a three-million-dollar reward had been offered for information leading to his capture.
The arrest resulted from information sharing with Interpol Mexico—part of the Attorney General’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Agency—and military intelligence work by the Secretariat of National Defense.
Personnel from the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the Criminal Investigation Agency participated in the operation.
The security strategy implemented in Mexico has led to the arrest of 67,000 people for high-impact crimes and the seizure of 34,000 weapons and over 500 tons of drugs nationwide during the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Sources from the National Public Security System attribute a 53% decrease in the daily average of intentional homicides recorded nationwide—during the current administration, which began in October 2024—to these results.
