Nicaraguan association denounces US blockade on Cuba

Managua, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) The Nicaraguan Association of Friends of Socialism and Peace denounced the blockade policy implemented by the United States government on Cuba and expressed its support for the Cuban Revolution.

In a statement released on social media coinciding with the start of the High-Level Segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, the organization noted that these meetings serve as a forum where the contradiction between the will of the peoples and the policies of hegemonic powers becomes evident.

It described the U.S. blockade on Cuba as an act of unconventional warfare and maintained that the tightening of energy restrictions and the island’s continued inclusion on the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism are intended to harm the Cuban economy and population.

The association also criticized the application of the Helms-Burton Act and other measures taken by Washington against Havana, deeming them mechanisms of pressure aimed at the Caribbean nation’s state and people.

“The abominable laws of blackmail devised by fascists, such as the Helms-Burton Act, merely demonstrate the cowardice and decadence of a system sinking into its own putrid swamp—one that tramples upon its own international legal standards to punish a socialist state,” it stated.

The statement emphasized that the sanctions impact the population’s material living conditions as well as sectors such as energy, medicine, and food supplies.

It also highlighted the achievements of the Cuban Revolution despite the impact of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade—in place for over six decades—and asserted that history has passed judgment on Washington’s policies toward the island.
