During a courtesy visit, Thongsalith first met with Viant Valdes and subsequently, with Silvano Merced, dean of the Manuel Fajardo University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences in Havana, who is in Laos as part of a tour that included Cambodia and will conclude in Vietnam.

Earlier, Merced signed a sports-sector agreement with Sinthavone Dalavong, President of the National University of Laos (NUOL), at a ceremony attended by Viant Valdes, the university’s Director of International Relations, Marveris Sarmiento, and other diplomatic representatives.

The agreement boosts exchanging experiences and technical knowledge, including technology and innovation in sports sciences, as well as human resource development and personnel exchanges involving both students and faculty.

Regarding human resource development, the parties pledged to enhance the skills of teachers, researchers, coaches, and athletes. Concerning exchanges, they are committed to organizing joint scientific research projects in the future.

Sports collaboration between the two countries dates back to Laos’s independence in 1975 and is part of a strong bond of brotherhood forged between the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Lao leaders.
