Reinel Luna, head of the Commercial Department for Etecsa’s Ciego de Avila division, stated that power outages cause many technical sites to shut down, significantly affecting landline, mobile, and data services and causing frustration for users.
For this reason, he noted, investments are being made in solar solutions for municipal centers and hard-to-reach communities as part of a short-, medium-, and long-term program for the sector’s energy transition.
He pointed out that the province has installed 22 systems to provide coverage to municipal centers, along with some twenty technical sites equipped with solar backup, despite the economic and logistical challenges facing the sector.
Luna explained that the installation of photovoltaic systems in Ciego de Avila represents a significant step toward energy autonomy for telecommunications in Cuba.
