“He was an artist who sang of life, work, love, and revolution—a committed, rebellious, and creative man,” stated Gloria Konig, the event’s host.

  Organized for the past 14 years by the Recoleta municipality, the concert represents an act of politics, culture, resistance, and beauty—of poetry and aesthetics, Konig asserted.

  Tribute was also paid to the recently deceased filmmaker Patricio Guzman, whom she described as the man who reclaimed Chile’s memory.

  Meanwhile, the Governor of the Santiago Metropolitan Region, Claudio Orrego, thanked the Recoleta municipality for holding this annual concert, specifically acknowledging former mayor Daniel Jadue, under whose administration the initiative began.

  Referring to the country’s current situation, he noted that culture is being stripped of funding because it is not a consumer good, and remarked, “We have been through six months that feel like six years,” alluding to the budget cuts implemented by the government of President Jose Antonio Kast.
