According to the official Omani news agency ONA, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi made the statement during his country’s address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Albusaidi stated that, earlier this year, the region was the scene of a conflict that—in his view—”could have been avoided,” and whose subsequent events led to an escalation that threatened the security of regional states and impacted navigation and trade through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to the foreign minister, this situation also affected energy security, price stability, and confidence in the global order.
The Sultanate reiterates its firm commitment to continuing its efforts to safeguard navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with the principles of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, he declared.
The minister also urged all parties to cooperate in these efforts, with the aim of respecting and protecting the interests of those who rely on the strait’s maritime transit routes.
Regarding the crisis between Tehran and Washington, Albusaidi called for resolving outstanding differences through dialogue.
