Prensa Latina’s work in support of the truth praised in Brazil

Niteroi, Brazil, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) Michel Damasceno, president of the National Congress of Struggles Against Neoliberalism (CNCN), highlighted the work of Prensa Latina as a tool for disseminating information and knowledge, and for opening the way to alternative perspectives on the Latin American and global stages.

During his address at the 19th International Seminar on Struggles Against Neoliberalism, which concluded in the city of Niteroi, the leader acknowledged the 22 years of cooperation between Prensa Latina and the Brazilian newspaper *Inverta*, and commended the work of those who translate content from the Latin American news agency—headquartered in Cuba—into Portuguese.

Damasceno stated that this work makes it possible to bring the ideas of “Operation Truth” to millions of people—referring to the international press conference convened in January 1959 by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, which served as the starting point for the founding of Prensa Latina in June of that year.

He upheld that, in a country as important as Brazil, translating and disseminating Prensa Latina means giving a voice to those whom the world’s powerful sought to silence.

Translating and disseminating Prensa Latina today means clearing a path through lies so that the truth can emerge, he asserted, while championing the agency’s role in the dissemination of information.

In his speech, the CNCN president also highlighted the 35th anniversary of *Inverta*, describing it as the communist newspaper with the longest continuous circulation in Brazil, and underscored the role of the cooperative, which was created by workers from the Baixada Fluminense region.

It also recalled that, in 1992, Inverta took on the printing and distribution of *Granma Internacional*—the organ of the Communist Party of Cuba—amid the complex landscape following the collapse of the Soviet Union and during Cuba’s so-called Special Period.
