Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, Director General of the Sports Administration, and Silvano Merced, dean at the “Manuel Fajardo” University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences, who is visiting Hanoi as part of a tour that also included Cambodia and Laos, discussed this issue during a meeting on Monday.

Merced proposed coach exchanges in volleyball, boxing, chess, wrestling, soccer, and baseball, including Baseball5, a sport in which the island holds two-time senior and youth world titles.

He noted that the university boosts this sport, which is set to appear as an exhibition event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with the International Federation aiming to include it in the official program for the subsequent games in 2032.

Also participating were Cuban Ambassador to this nation, Rogelio Polanco; Maylem Rivero, Minister-Counselor and head of the Economic and Commercial Office; and Marveris Sarmiento, Director of International Relations at “Fajardo,” as this higher education center, established 53 years ago, is known in Cuba.

Hoang Viet highlighted the historic friendship between the two nations and proposed exchanges of athletes and students for friendly matches and participation in local tournaments, as well as opportunities for collaboration in sports medicine and psychology, fields in which Cuba possesses extensive experience.
