The local Foreign Ministry announced that Domingos Vieira Lopes, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, met with Cuban Ambassador to Luanda, Oscar Leon, to discuss organizational aspects of this important mechanism.
Leon expressed his government’s gratitude for Angolan President Joao Lourenco’s stance in his address to the current session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he called for an end to the US economic blockade.
The ambassador added that Cuba values Angola’s historic stance against the United States’ stifling policy toward the island, noting that the Angolan head of State’s words confirm the merit of the award the African Union (AU) bestowed on him as a Champion of Peace and Reconciliation.
The diplomat also updated Vieira Lopes on the political, economic, and social situation in Cuba, a country affected by the US economic blockade for more than six decades, whose coercive measures have been tightened under the current administration in Washington.
