Call to identify Brazilian magistrates linked to bank

Brasilia, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) Justice Gilmar Mendes of Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) has requested the identification of all magistrates mentioned in investigations concerning Banco Master and its former owner, Daniel Vorcaro.

The request seeks the high court determines whether to open or not an investigation into fellow Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

Mendes argued that the review of the De Moraes case should remain suspended until the Supreme Court is informed which other members and judges were cited in conversations extracted from Vorcaro’s mobile phone.

“A partial investigation is a flawed investigation,” the justice stated, noting that pre-defining the scope of the inquiry could determine in advance which aspects are clarified and which are excluded from analysis.

According to Mendes, identifying the mentioned magistrates is also necessary to determine who may participate in votes regarding proceedings linked to Banco Master and who might be recused from involvement.

Until it is known which members of the court were mentioned—and in what context—it is impossible to determine who is eligible to vote and who is recused in the related proceedings, he emphasized.

The justice’s stance comes amidst investigations into the former banker’s ties to public officials and members of the judiciary.

Vorcaro is under investigation for alleged financial crimes and the corruption of public officials.
