Ethiopia looking beyond challenges and boosting the financial sector

Addis Ababa, Sept 29 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh invited investors and development partners to look beyond current challenges and engage with the institutions, markets, and opportunities the country is building.

Inaugurating the second edition of the Ethiopia Finance Forum 2026, Tiruneh stated that national economic reforms must ultimately be measured by the opportunities they create for individuals and businesses.

He highlighted the expansion of access to finance for women, youth, farmers, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs); the deepening of financial and capital markets; the strengthening of digital and financial infrastructure; and the mobilization of greater volumes of domestic and international private capital for productive investment.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to macroeconomic stability and sustained reforms, as well as to robust collaboration with the private sector.

In this regard, he assured that the country’s economic course would remain unchanged, despite any challenges that might arise. “Our future does not depend on the absence of challenges, but on our ability to overcome them,” he noted.

Finally, he urged the forum’s participants to translate discussions and commitments into concrete actions.

“Ethiopia is moving forward; Ethiopia is building. And Ethiopia intends to succeed,” he concluded.

The Ethiopia Finance Forum is taking place from September 29 to October 1 at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum in the capital.

Organized by the National Bank, the event brings together policymakers, financial institutions, investors, development partners, and industry leaders to exchange perspectives, explore opportunities, and shape the future of the country’s financial sector.
