Bachelet returns to Chilean politics after withdrawing from UN chief

Santiago, Chile, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Six opposition parties have organized a tribute to former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, who is returning to political life after withdrawing from the UN chief race.

The Partido Socialista (Socialist Party-PS), the Communist Party of Chile (PCCh), the Partido por la Democracia (Party for Democracy-PPD), the Partido Liberal (Liberal Party-PL), the Democracia Cristiana (Christian Democrats-DC), and the Frente Amplio (Broad Front-FA) sponsored the meeting in the capital’s La Pintana district.

The call aims to recognize Bachelet’s career and influence. She served two terms as president of Chile, from 2006 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2018.

Her legacy includes significant reforms in healthcare, education, and gender equality, and has been succeeded by new generations.

The call states that as Chile moves toward an uncertain future, Bachelet’s ideals remain a source of inspiration for many in the country.

On September 19, Bachelet withdrew from her candidacy to head the United Nations following unfavorable results in informal Security Council votes.
