Colombia: Pasto Historico reveals provisional leadership, direction

Bogota, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Former Colombian President Gustavo Petro (2022-2026) announced the names of those who will make up the provisional leadership of the party Pacto Historico and outlined the political group's next steps.

The photo posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account shows—in addition to the former leader himself—Senator Carlos Alberto Benavides; former National Land Agency Director Felipe Harman; former senators Gloria Florez and Maria Jose Pizarro; and Antonio Penaloza (Polo), who was part of Senator Ivan Cepeda’s presidential campaign.

In his message, Petro stated that the organization will hold a popular election of delegates to finalize the movement’s structure.

“The vote will be open; anyone can participate and vote anywhere in the country at polling stations. Anyone can join the movement, provided they agree with its progressive platform and the struggle for democracy and social justice in Colombia,” he asserted.

He also announced the creation of special teams to investigate electoral fraud during the last presidential election—fraud which he upholds was caused by foreign interference and foreign funds affecting the technological vote-counting systems, specifically pointing the finger at the Israeli government.

He further detailed plans to establish a legal defense team for individuals who are victims of “government persecution,” as well as a communications platform “capable of countering the impact of the bot farms that support Abelardo de la Espriella.”

The party Pacto Historico is currently preparing its first National Congress with the aim of reorganizing as an opposition force and defining its candidacies for the upcoming 2027 regional elections.
